Overview
Power Electronics Engineer (KTP Associate) — Salary £30,000 to £40,000 per annum. Location: Rochdale. This is a fixed term, 36‑month contract funded through a KTP award, with the prospect of a permanent position at the end of the project.
This role involves developing high-frequency, high-power density, wide-bandgap inverter drives for Aerospace Electrical Machines as part of a collaboration based in Rochdale and Nottingham (PEMC Institute). You will contribute to the design, manufacture, R&D and test of electromechanical actuators and advanced electric motors/generators for extreme environments and aerospace/defence applications.
You will primarily be based at the company premises in Rochdale with some time at the PEMC Institute in Nottingham.
Responsibilities
* Develop high-frequency wide-bandgap inverter drives for high-speed aerospace electrical machines.
* Integrate the drive with NEMA high-speed motor and testing activities.
* Create a digital twin for a motor drive system.
* Collaborate with colleagues to ensure all work embeds new knowledge.
* Engage with the KTP framework to receive support and mentoring, including a personal budget for training and CPD.
Requirements/Qualifications
* A post-graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
* Good understanding of power electronics with hands-on experience.
* Basic understanding of motor drive control.
* Experience using Matlab/Simulink, PLECS, and C language.
* Excellent organizational, communication and team-working skills.

Salary: £30,000 to £40,000 per annum pro-rata depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.
