Job Description
Role: Lead Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Warrington - Hybrid (3days in office / 2 days from home)
Salary: £60,000 - £62,000
I am working with a prominent organisation seeking a talented Lead Infrastructure Engineer to strengthen their IT department. You will be essential in maintaining and enhancing their important infrastructure.
As a Lead Infrastructure Engineer, you will lead AWS projects, drive automation initiatives, and oversee deployments to ensure a resilient and scalable production environment that supports continuous growth. A key aspect of this role will involve providing training and mentorship to one of the junior members of the team, fostering their technical development and contributing to the overall growth of the team.
Tech Stack
• Predominantly Windows-based EC2 instances on AWS.
• MariaDB (main relational DB) and DynamoDB (NoSQL).
Linux appliances are in use (small but important parts of the estate).
• Use of a custom-built deployment tool (not standard Terraform or Ansible).
• Deployment automation exists but needs improvement and modernization.
• AWS services: Various (not all specified, but significant AWS integration).
Role Requirements
• Cloud: Strong AWS experience required. (Azure-only experience is not sufficient.)
• Must be highly capable in Windows server environments.
• Needs some Linux exposure; not an expert, but comfortable with Linux servers.
• Help separate production, staging, dev, and test environments into separate AWS accounts.
• Move towards Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
• Improve deployment efficiency, security best practices, cost management.
Soft Skills
• Problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.
• Ability to work independently and figure out issues with limited guidance.
• Experience supporting business-critical services with high availability requirements.
• Proactive attitude, collaborative spirit, non-corporate, non-political mindset.
• Some mentorship/leadership responsibilities (over junior infrastructure engineer).
