Thetechnician will support support project development of vaccinesagainst HERVK envelope to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.Transgenic mice expressing HERVK envelope under a neuronal promoterwill be immunized with the vaccine compounds before the appearanceof clinical symptoms to test the prevention capability of thevaccines.

Statement of WorkDetails
Provides laboratory experience needed to maintainexperimental animal colonies and collect sequential colonycensus.
* Conduct smallanimal husbandry animal handling and specificprocedures.
* Interpret genotyping results andmaintain genotyping records.
* Performgenotyping PCR to maintain transgenic mouse colonies used inprojects including images of genotyping PCR gels and tabulation ofgenotyping results.
* Perform animal handlingand specific procedures.
* Perform laboratorytask in support of neurological studies in smallanimals.
* Manage multiple animal studiesrunning concurrently in different phases.
* Perform laboratory and animal technical duties to includebut not limited to: weighing animals and feed blood withdrawalsperforming injections operating behavioral equipment.
* Maintain animal colonies and organization of animalinventory; monitor procedures; maintain the amounts of animals usedand animal procurement.
* Harvest and collectanimal embryos tissues and organs.
Prepares / monitors caging environments andanimal health.
* Report anyanimal health care and/or wellbeing concerns to the appropriatefacility management staff and facility veterinarians.
* Ensure the humane treatment of animals in the laboratory.
Collaborates with veterinarians in theperformance of animal surgeries.
* Prepare animals for surgery and ensure proper disposal ofanimal carcasses.
* Handle dissect and euthanizeanimals.
Maintainsdetailed and accurate records.
* Track and maintain database for all research activities;update and maintain laboratory notebooks and databases; and recordprocedures performed in laboratory notebook.
* Collect both in vivo and ex vivo data; collect andmaintain data using various systems.
* Preparereports for collected data which include representative dataconditions of data collection.
* Maintainintegrity of the research process by following good laboratorypractices including: detailed record keeping of methods routineanimal observations data collections.
Assists with organizing the shipment of mice toand from facility.
* Workwith staff on organizing the animal shipment to and from thefacility.
* Order and receive small animalshipments.
Maintainsrecords of animal protocols.
* Perform and maintain records of molecular biologyprotocols.
Maintainslaboratory stock of reagents and materials.
* Perform routine laboratory maintenanceincluding laboratory stock of reagents and materials.
* Check current inventory in the laboratory and orderappropriate animals media buffers reagents tissue samples and otherrequired materials.
Performs experimental procedures as well asstandardized and specialized tests exams and vaccinations.
* Prepare animals forexperiments.
* Conduct in vivo drug studies inanimal models.
* Collect blood and tissuesamples from animals.
Trains other in proper animal handing andsurgical procedures.
* Provide technical guidance and assistance for researchersinterested in wellestablished protocols.
