Job Description:
Rappahannock Community College (RCC), founded in 1970, provides high-quality educational and training opportunities throughout a 12-county service region an hour east of Richmond on the beautiful western shore of the Chesapeake Bay with access to fresh local seafood and water activities. RCC delivers accessible and affordable educational opportunities, including for-credit transfer and career technical programs, robust distance education coursework, quality dual enrollment courses, and award-winning workforce training and credentialing programs. RCC’s annualized enrollment of 3,700 credit students in 2024-2025 and almost 800 workforce and community development students are supported by almost 140 full-time employees and over 200 part-time/adjunct employees across two main campuses and four satellite sites. Are you someone who wants to help students achieve their educational and professional dreams? RCC invites you to apply for our Student Support Services Counselor position. This is a full-time, 12-month, restricted professional faculty appointment with an excellent benefits package. Continuation of the position is contingent upon grant funding (current grant is funded through 8/31/2030). The anticipated salary will be no less than $68,293, commensurate with education and experience. The role will be located on the Glenns campus. This is an immediate appointment. The College desires candidates with a commitment to the community college mission and experience working in a diverse student population, including adult learners and at-risk students. The successful candidate will be committed to academic excellence, continuous improvement through professional development, and creating a collegial environment of civility, collaboration and open communication. The college strives for a faculty of content experts who are also knowledgeable about best practices and innovative strategies that support teaching and learning. The Student Support Services (SSS) Program is a federal TRiO Program funded through the U. S. Department of Education to provide academic, career, and financial counseling to eligible students and to encourage them to pursue their post-secondary education. Participating students are enrolled at RCC and meet at least one of the following criteria: low-income standard, first generation college status, and/or documented disability. Reporting to the Director of TRiO Programs (Student Support Services and Upward Bound Program Director), the Student Support Services (SSS) Counselor plays a vital role in supporting the academic, personal, and professional success of program participants. This position provides individualized advising, counseling, and guidance to students to help them navigate barriers to higher education. Responsibilities include recruiting eligible program participants, assisting students with academic planning, financial aid and scholarship guidance, transfer preparation and career exploration, as well as providing personal support to encourage persistence and graduation. The SSS Counselor also develops and facilitates workshops, coordinates cultural and educational activities, maintains accurate student records, and ensures compliance with federal TRiO program regulations. The incumbent must be able to operate and utilize technology to include the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, online assessments, Google docs, and electronic filing systems. Overall, this position is dedicated to empowering students to achieve their educational and career goals while fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Some work at the Warsaw campus and traveling with students is required. Such travel will include occasional overnight, weekend and out-of-state trips. Finalists will be asked to complete a presentation. In support of the Commonwealth’s commitment to inclusion, we are encouraging individuals with disabilities to apply through the Commonwealth’s Alternative Hiring Process. To be considered for this opportunity, applicants will need to provide their AHP Letter (formerly called a Certificate of Disability) provided by the Department for Aging & Rehabilitative Services (DARS), or the Department for the Blind & Vision Impaired (DBVI). Service-Connected Veterans may also apply via the AHP if they also provide an AHP Letter. To request an AHP Letter, use this link: or call DARS at 800-552-5019, or DBVI at 800-622-2155.
