About the Job you are considering:
Lead end-to-end testing for UK payments transformation initiatives within banking and financial services, ensuring solutions are delivered safely, compliantly, and to high-quality standards. Own and drive the overall test strategy, planning, and execution across functional, integration, UAT, and non-functional testing phases. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to ensure seamless delivery while meeting regulatory expectations and operational resilience requirements across payments systems.
Hybrid working:
The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.
Job Role:
1. Define and own test strategy, test plan, and overall test approach for payments programs
2. Lead test estimation, resource planning, scheduling, and progress reporting
3. Manage full test lifecycle including requirements analysis, test design, execution, defect management, and closure
4. Coordinate end-to-end integration testing across applications, APIs, middleware, and third-party systems
5. Drive testing across UK payment schemes such as Faster Payments, CHAPS, Bacs, and SWIFT
6. Ensure robust test data management, including masking/anonymisation and environment readiness
7. Lead defect management including severity assessment, triage, root cause analysis, and closure governance
8. Support and govern User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including entry/exit criteria, execution oversight, and sign-off
9. Plan and oversee non-functional testing such as performance, resilience, and security testing
10. Implement automation strategy, shift-left practices, and CI/CD quality gates
11. Ensure adherence to audit controls, compliance standards, and regulatory expectations
12. Provide clear status reporting and updates to senior stakeholders and governance forums
Job Skills:
13. Proven experience as a Test Lead/Test Manager in banking or financial services
14. Strong knowledge of UK payments systems: Faster Payments (FPS), CHAPS, Bacs, SWIFT
15. Understanding of payment lifecycle including failures, cutoffs, returns, rejects, duplicates, and reconciliation
16. Expertise in end-to-end integration testing across distributed systems and APIs
17. Strong test management skills including planning, estimation, and governance
18. Advanced defect management and triage leadership skills
19. Experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence, ALM, Zephyr, and reporting dashboards
20. Knowledge of test automation tools such as Selenium, Cypress, and API testing tools (Postman, Rest Assured)
21. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and quality engineering practices
22. Experience with SQL and data validation, including XML/JSON
23. Understanding of ISO 20022 messaging (preferred)
24. Strong communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills
25. Desirable Skills
26. Experience with ISO 20022 migration programs
27. Knowledge of SWIFT messaging standards
28. Certifications such as ISTQB (Foundation/Advanced), Agile/Scrum/Kanban, or quality engineering certifications
