Job overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for motivated and suitably experienced Clinical Support Worker to develop their skills and experience and work alongside the Community ACP Team to enhance the patient experience within the Hospital At Home Team and Urgent Community Response (UCR) team for a 12 month fixed term contract or secondment.

This role is based at Lightwood House, but covers the citywide service.

Main duties of the job

Carry out independently, under the indirect supervision of Registered Practitioners (mostly doctors and ACP's), and in compliance with
agreed standards and competencies, technical procedures related to the assessment and care of patients, primarily:
- Obtain ECG recordings.
- Placement of intravenous cannula.
- Obtain samples of venous blood (venepuncture / phlebotomy)
- Ordering tests including ICE and sample ordering.

Carry out duties in a courteous respectful manner and treat patients, visitors and colleagues with dignity and respect, excising
discretion and maintaining confidentiality, in line with the STH PROUD values.

Assist in the safe use, custody and maintenance of equipment, using resources efficiently and effectively. Report equipment for repair
or maintenance, completing required documentation.

Care for patient’s property in line with Trust policy.

Comply with all Trust policies and procedures.

Assist in the development of new staff by demonstrating own duties.

Assist with data collection for audit to help with service improvement.

Assist with maintaining stocks and supplies, using resources effectively and economically.

Checking, stocking and cleaning of work areas to maintain an effective work environment.

Contribute to control of infection following Trust guidelines.

When required work flexibly within the role to respond to service needs.

Attend ongoing training and updates, including mandatory training as required.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term/secondment contract basis for a period of a maximum of twelve months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.

Please note all existing NHS staff will only be considered on a secondment basis. This must first be agreed with your current line manager.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Completion of the STH 5-day Healthcare Support Worker Programme within the 12 months prior to employment, or, must be willing to complete this training within the first three months of employment.
2. Care Certificate from an approved awarder, which may also be acquired once employed at the Trust.
3. GCSE English and Maths at grade D/3 or above (or relevant equivalent qualification or level of ability which would include Functional Skills Level 1)
4. Level 3 Apprenticeship (or equivalent qualification) in Health Care / health related subject OR successful completion of / willingness to compete the trust’s required Clinical Support Worker training and competency package.

Experience

Essential criteria

5. Experience of working in a healthcare, social care organisation / setting, or, experience of working in a service industry requiring people contact
6. Experience of multi-professional and team working

Desirable criteria

7. Experience of working in a healthcare setting as a clinical support worker / health care assistant or similar role
8. Experience of working within the speciality or relevant equivalent knowledge

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

9. Demonstrates insight / understanding into the role applied for in delivering care to meet patient needs
10. Successfully achieved competence in (or be working towards) and able to perform a core range of clinical duties relevant to the clinical area.
11. Understands the importance of confidentiality and demonstrates a knowledge of how it can be maintained
12. Ability to communicate effectively with both patients and colleagues, including the ability to discuss sensitive issues, demonstrating tact and empathy
13. Able to follow verbal and written instructions in order to complete assigned tasks.
14. Able to undertake frequent periods of physical activity e.g., moving and assisting patients as required with mechanical aids
15. Ability to problem solve, using initiative and own judgement to resolve routine issues
16. IT literate and comfortable / confident with the use of computer systems
