Children’s Complex Needs Nurse – Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust (Closing date: 10 June 2026)
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced qualified paediatric nurse to join our Children’s Continuing Care and Assessment Team. The role provides assessment, medical device supply, training, advocacy and ongoing support for children with complex physical health needs in their homes, schools and nurseries across East Lancashire, Blackburn with Darwen, Preston and West Lancashire. The post is based in Burnley or Preston with regular travel across the area.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
* Supporting children and young people with diverse physical health needs by completing Health Needs Assessments under Continuing Care criteria.
* Developing individualised management and treatment plans and determining appropriate interventions and goals.
* Providing training and support for children, families and staff at home, schools and nurseries.
* Working independently with excellent organisational and communication skills, and seeking supervision when required.
* Collaborating closely with wider children's nursing teams and the multi‑disciplinary team (MDT).
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Professional degree or equivalent.
* Registered nurse qualification – Child Branch or relevant experience.
* Current professional registration with the NMC.
Knowledge
* Understanding of clinical governance framework and implications for practice, including audit and research governance.
* Knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools for children with diverse needs.
* Knowledge of a range of therapy techniques and programmes for children with diverse needs.
Experience
* Recent and relevant postgraduate experience in specialist child health practice.
* Multi‑disciplinary/multi‑agency collaborative working.
* Experience of working with children with complex needs and their families in community and non‑clinical settings.
Skills
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal.
* Ability to work independently as a lead specialist.
* Ability to manage children with challenging behaviours.
Practical Information
Band 6, salary £39,959 to £48,117 per annum, permanent contract, full‑time, working pattern flexible with term‑time, part‑time, compressed hours and flexi‑time options. Disclosure and Barring Service check required. UK professional registration mandatory.
