Reporting Relationship: Lead Clinician
Position Summary:
The National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP) provides culturally appropriate, trauma-informed, comprehensive services to children under the care of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).
NYAP is looking for a Bi-lingual Clinician to work with children fleeing their country of origin who arrive in the U.S. without a parent or legal guardian. These children are temporarily placed across different programs in the US, then released to sponsors in local communities. NYAP collaborates with Federal agencies to provide clinical services to facilitate reunification with caregivers in the US.
The Clinician will conduct mental health assessments, provide ongoing individual and group counseling, screen for trauma, human trafficking, and crisis intervention. Responsibilities include collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, maintaining a therapeutic environment, establishing treatment goals, and assisting in the implementation of individualized service plans.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Clinician’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Coordinating clinical services, training new clinicians, and supporting the Lead Clinician in supervising clinical staff;
2. Overseeing trauma-informed assessments and counseling sessions;
3. Providing mentorship and guidance to team clinicians;
4. Screening for human trafficking concerns and providing crisis intervention;
5. Reviewing and modifying individual service plans with case management to ensure progress;
6. Building strong relationships with foster parents and conducting home visits;
7. Providing safety assessments, crisis response, and behavioral stabilization services;
8. Monitoring the mental well-being of children and arranging appropriate services;
9. Collaborating with staff and stakeholders using a trauma-informed child welfare approach;
10. Providing weekly individual counseling and group sessions, and crisis intervention as needed;
11. Facilitating family sessions when necessary;
12. De-escalating children during crises;
13. Maintaining an active clinical caseload as per ORR ratios;
14. Completing assessments, documentation, and progress notes in accordance with ORR and NYAP standards;
15. Participating in case staffing and treatment team activities;
16. Attending clinical trainings and acting as SME on mental health and child welfare practices;
17. Coordinating clinical and family unification services, including discharge planning;
18. Reporting incidents and maintaining files according to policies;
19. Working on-call and after-hours as required;
20. Traveling to provide services as needed;
21. Maintaining relationships with foster parents and ensuring compliance with CQI requirements.
