Role Description
Brief Description: Working in all weathers on the frontline, you'll carry out maintenance and faulting duties. You may deputise for the Team Leader to develop management skills. You will help keep our nation moving every day.
The daily upkeep of the rail network involves outdoor work as part of a team, supporting essential maintenance to keep the railway running safely and smoothly for passengers and freight users. Our Technician community comes from diverse backgrounds, and we provide training to develop you to work safely and competently on the network. If you perform well, you can build a rewarding career with Network Rail.
As part of the application process, all applicants complete pre-screening questions. These require time and concentration, so please read each question carefully before responding. Applicants must hold PTS and Controller of Site Safety as a minimum requirement. Knowledge and experience of track maintenance and track inspection are desirable.
Role Responsibilities
Technicians provide the essential link between the Team Leader and the team's Operatives. You will become a specialist in Off Track activities, including maintaining, inspecting and repairing land alongside the track network to keep the railway safe and efficient. This includes vegetation management, drainage and ancillary structures. You will work outdoors in all conditions and may transport kit across challenging terrain. You will be safety-focused, respectful of rules and a team player, often working next to moving trains traveling at high speed.
You may lead the team when asked by the Team Leader, deliver work safely, ensure the team has the right competencies to meet safety standards, and role model safe working behaviours. You will be confident to challenge risks to safety so that everyone gets home safely each day.
