Location: MoD Boscombe Down, 37 hours per week. Flexible working possible.

We are looking for a Safety Engineer to support the Allocated Design Team and SMEs in developing and delivering safety cases for design certification and Safety of Flight declarations. You will lead hazard identification, risk analysis, and documentation activities for aircraft modification, commercial equipment, test instrumentation, and ground support equipment.
Key Responsibilities
* Technically lead project safety activities, including hazard identification, risk analysis, and management.
* Prepare safety and risk management documentation to support certification or Safety of Flight (Permit to Fly) activities.
* Support the generation of safety and risk management philosophy to meet customer, technical, environmental, operational, safety, and regulatory requirements.
* Maintain hazards and controls register.
* Interface with Part 21J Design, Part 21G Production, Part 145 Maintenance, and aircraft operators regarding Safety Management Systems.
* Review and test adequacy of evidence supplied to support Safety Assessments.
Essential Experience
* Specialist safety experience, ideally supporting aviation designs or products.
* Technical report writing for safety case reporting and advice.
* Generation and maintenance of project hazard logs.
* Knowledge of regulatory and governance of the design process.
* Ability to produce compliance arguments and documentation meeting regulatory frameworks (CAA, MAA, HSE).
Essential Qualifications
* Master’s degree in Safety or Aviation, or related discipline; equivalent via HNC/HND or substantial experience.
* Formal training/experience in engineering fundamentals: materials, stress awareness, mechanisms, design principles, electrical awareness.
