Stress Engineer (Finite Element Analysis (FEA))
ROLE PURPOSE
To perform stress activities, carrying out challenging analysis and calculations on a wide range of state‑of‑the‑art aerospace components. The role offers opportunities for developing skills, knowledge and experience in this exciting industry.
Job Requirements
Applicants should have a proven background in gas turbines or naval marine applications at component level. Stress experience on aero gas turbine or naval marine commodities is preferred.
Principal Responsibilities / Accountabilities
* Delivering design solutions by carrying out structural & thermal analysis of aero engine and/or naval marine components
* Linear/Non‑linear stress analysis of rotating/static components.
* Ensure stress reports meet the appropriate levels of quality and robustness and confirm that defined requirements are met
* Ensure that all project stakeholders have the right information at the right time, through pro‑active communication
* Support other team members with ongoing/future work packages
Baseline Responsibilities
* Technical support and execution for all stress/lifing activities such as:
* Application of vibration (Campbell Diagram) analysis, creep analysis
* Application of low‑cycle fatigue (LCF), high‑cycle fatigue (HCF), creep, corrosion, erosion and crack propagation assessment of rotating machinery
* Damage and tolerance/melt anomaly methods
* Support thermo‑mechanical solutions
* Contribute to development of best practices and productivity improvements
Experience
Applicants must have a proven background in gas turbines or naval marine applications at component level.
Ability To
* Quickly understand problems, set priorities
* Actively lead various tasks and issues while continuously working towards improvements
* Drive technical delivery through adherence to key processes (safety, concessions, lifing, etc.)
* Understand complex system interactions
* Interpret technical analysis, draw out key issues and present to project for review.
* Develop technical solutions, compliant with requirements, and make technical recommendations
* Develop solutions, based on experience, in new product designs
Knowledge
* Demonstrate a good understanding of all aspects of aero engine or naval marine components
* Understand the safety process for in‑service engines
* Understand the behaviour and limitations of aerospace materials
* Understand component lifing strategies and limitations
* Knowledge of system behaviour under impact loading
* Knowledge of composite failure & analysis methods
Tool Knowledge
Experience with one or more of the following is essential: ANSYS, PLM, UG NX, LS‑DyNA, ICEM Meshing, ABAQUS, HYPERWORKS, SCO3. Desirable: NASTRAN, PATRAN, Simcenter.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Engineering (e.g. Aeronautical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering) or equivalent experience in an OEM.
