We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Metallurgical & Mechanical Test Technician to support component testing, quality validation and materials investigation activities within a highly technical environment.

This role involves hands-on testing, teardown activities, metallurgical analysis, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure product quality and compliance to industry standards.
Location: Wolverhampton (EMC) Contract End Date: 30/09/2026 Schedule: 39 hours per week, Monday-Friday Shift Pattern: Alternating 2-shift rotation Early Shift: 06:00-14:00 (Mon-Thu), 06:00-13:00 (Fri) Late Shift: 14:00-22:00 (Mon-Thu), 13:00-20:00 (Fri) Key Responsibilities Operate metallurgical and mechanical preparation equipment to evaluate components in line with engineering specifications and standard processes.
Conduct routine quality control testing for EDU, Battery, and Frame Assembly.
Perform teardowns of stators and frames using destructive equipment such as bandsaws.
Carry out visual weld inspection and ultrasonic testing of spot welds.
Use optical microscopes to measure welds, rivets, and assess porosity.
Perform radiographic analysis (X-ray) of components.
Support investigations into product quality concerns alongside cross-functional teams.
Ensure compliance with internal and external audits, including IATF 16949 and ISO 14001.
Maintain full adherence to Health & Safety standards, identifying hazards and supporting corrective actions.
Follow local laboratory documentation and practices, including 5S, Work Instructions, Autonomous Maintenance, and COSHH/Risk Assessments.
Carry out additional tasks as directed by the line manager.
Skills & Experience Essential Experienced in using preparation equipment (bandsaws, abrasive cutters, grinding, polishing, etching).
Hands-on experience with materials testing equipment (optical microscopes, hardness testers, tensile machines, FTIR, OES, DSC, RFU, etc.).
Strong metallurgical knowledge of steel and aluminium and practical application experience.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Competent computer skills, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Desirable Experience interpreting X-ray or CT-scan imagery.
Working knowledge of MIG/TIG/CMT welding.
CSWIP weld inspection experience.
Experience using ultrasonic / PAUT equipment for spot-weld analysis.
Education & Qualifications Required Minimum Level 3 qualification in Engineering, Science, Welding, or a related technical field.
Desirable Ultrasonic / PAUT Level 2 certification. xjlbheb
