This is a Consultant Psychiatrist replacement post working within the Harness Locality Community Mental Health Team. The post holder will have consultant and RC responsibility for a defined caseload of service users under the care of the local CMHT. The post holder will also provide mentoring and supervision as an experienced consultant.
Responsibilities
* Manage, appraise and provide professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the medical director.
* Ensure junior medical staff operating within the parameters of the New Deal and Working Time Directive compliant.
* Record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, submitting promptly through the trust’s clinical information systems.
* Participate in service and business planning activity for the locality and, where appropriate, for the whole mental health service.
* Participate in annual appraisal for consultants.
* Attend and participate in the academic programme of the trust, including lectures, seminars and the internal CPD programme.
* Participate annually, at a minimum, in a job plan review with the clinical manager, consulting with relevant managers to ensure the post develops in line with service configuration changes.
* Work with local managers and professional colleagues to ensure efficient running of services and share consultant medical contribution to management.
* Comply with the trust’s agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, taking an active role in financial management and supporting the medical director and other managers in preparing service plans.
* Assess new patients and provide clinical supervision of assessments carried out by other team members.
* Full participation in the multidisciplinary team providing care in the community.
* Senior medical responsibility for care carried out by the Community Mental Health Team for both CPA and LPC patients.
* Review and monitor the caseload to ensure appropriate care packages are in place and discharges facilitated to maintain patient flow.
* Contribute to the continuous development of the Community Mental Health Team and to other parts of the service as required.
* Provide domiciliary visits to assess and treat service users as a member of the CMHT.
* Conduct research, personal projects and clinical audits as part of clinical governance.
* Involve in joint planning of future service development.
* Occasionally perform psychiatric assessments of residents in crisis in another borough.
* Maintain close liaison with wards to facilitate admission and discharge planning.
* Liaise with HTT, Psychiatric Liaison Services, AMHP services and Forensic Services in the borough.
Essential Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable Qualifications
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Additional clinical qualifications.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months.
* Approved clinician status or able to achieve within three months of appointment.
* Approved under S12 or able to achieve within three months of appointment.
* In good standing with the GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
* Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.

* Ability to meet duties under the MHA and MCA.

* Wide range of specialist and sub‑specialist experience relevant to working in community services within NHS or a comparable service.

* Acute in‑patients (four wards) and PICU (13 beds) – Park Royal Centre for Mental Health.
* Community Mental Health Hubs organised in three hubs serving the three GP networks in the borough. Harness and Kilburn hubs are based at Park Royal Centre for Mental Health, Park Royal; Kingsbury and Willesden Hub is based at Fairfields House, Kingsbury.
