As Assistant Kitchen Manager, you will be part of a small team with a Kitchen Manager and 5 Catering Assistants, providing freshly prepared meals for approximately 60 boarding students, including breakfast, lunch, supper, and snacks. We pride ourselves on fresh, from-scratch cooking.
You will assist the Kitchen Manager with menu management, food production planning, food purchasing, and stock control. You will contribute to menu development, cleanliness, and general kitchen housekeeping.
Shift Pattern Overview:
* 5 days over 7, alternating between 7:00 AM-3:00 PM and 11:30 AM-7:30 PM shifts.
* Two days each week will involve providing all meal services when the Kitchen Manager is off, requiring split shifts or full days. Overtime will be paid in money or in lieu.
* Typical days off will be Friday and Saturday or Sunday and Monday, with every third weekend off.
Outside of Term Time: The school is contracted for private lettings and international student programs, and you will join a larger catering team. No split shifts are required during these periods. We can also accommodate a term-time only contract if preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist with house menu, food production planning, and purchasing within budget.
* Ensure cleanliness and compliance with health and safety standards.
* Manage stock effectively to minimize waste and stay within budget.
* Maintain health and safety standards, including food safety checks.
* Adhere to company policies regarding uniform and PPE.
Person Specification:
* Excellent culinary skills with relevant experience.
* Passion for food and delivering excellence.
* NVQ Level 2 in professional cookery or equivalent (desirable).
* Intermediate food hygiene/Level 2 certification (desirable).
