Automation Engineer
Location: Hastings, MN
We are seeking a dedicated Electrical Automation Engineer to support both new and existing machine projects. This role involves designing, developing, testing, and implementing electrical systems for custom manufacturing equipment. The engineer will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality automation solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop PLC and HMI programs using Rockwell Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, and similar software
* Design effective electrical systems for custom machinery in collaboration with engineering teams
* Create detailed electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical
* Develop accurate bills of materials and support procurement efforts
* Ensure control panel designs comply with UL508A standards
* Interpret and execute written technical specifications and project requirements
* Manage electrical projects from concept through completion
* Provide guidance on control panel assembly
* Conduct design reviews and technical communications
* Provide support for installation and troubleshooting of new and existing systems
* Coordinate designs to align with production schedules
* Identify and implement improvements for safety, quality, and cost efficiency
* Analyze test data to ensure performance requirements are met
Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field
* 4+ years of electrical design experience with automated equipment
* 2+ years of hands-on experience with Rockwell Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View
* Knowledge of 480VAC, 240VAC, 120VAC, 24VDC systems, motor controls, VFDs, sensors, and instrumentation
* Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical
* Familiarity with UL508A, NEC, and NFPA codes
* Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
* Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
* Able to lift up to 40 pounds and navigate industrial job sites
* Willingness to travel occasionally for meetings, surveys, or installations
