Job summary
This is a replacement post for a full‑time Consultant working in the Easington Mental Health Team. The team serves adults aged 18 and over who present with a mental illness and is integrated with Durham County Council. It provides statutory care act assessments alongside mental health assessment. Patients with an organic illness are managed by the Service for Older People. The service operates Monday to Friday, 9 am‑5 pm, with flexible working to see patients from 8 am to 6 pm. The team is based at Merrick House, Easington, offering both base and community care within a new community hub and intervention model.
Main duties of the job
The Consultant will provide committed, proactive and responsible leadership within the multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include attending the daily Huddle, decision meetings, formulation meetings and complex patient review meetings; conducting assessments for new patients; following up and reviewing patients; providing diagnosis and treatment plans; ensuring evidence‑based prescribing and monitoring of pharmacological treatment and ECT; and offering daily consultation and advice to the team. The Consultant must respect patient rights, dignity, cultural needs, and collaborate with families and carers, while maintaining familiarity with all relevant legislation affecting the adult mental health population.

Responsibilities
* Lead and promote the safety and well‑being of patients as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications
