Managing Director

An established, financially stable and profitable business in the north Home Counties are seeking an experienced Managing Director with a broad background in manufacturing (ideally the Packaging market) and Senior Sales Level to take over from a retiring MD with twelve months still to work. The ideal combination of an effective handover with a long-term secure opportunity to own the role.

Duties include:

* Developing business strategies specifically the sales strategy and implement business plans to accomplish organisational goals. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven, passionate and hard-working individual, looking to push themselves and the team as far as they possibly can.
* A broad experience of working in manufacturing is essential. Importantly, you must have proven experience at senior Sales level plus at least three years as an MD.
* You should have the ability to build strong internal and external relationships whilst overseeing the day-to-day operations and challenges of the business. The role offers the opportunity for someone with the right skills and experience to lead a highly experienced and established team within a company successful for many years.
* The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of the Packaging Market.
* A post that commands an excellent remuneration package of competitive salary, some hybrid working and benefits. There will be a requirement to attend the office at least three days per week and dependent on the needs of the role.

Managing Director duties and responsibilities

The main duties include:

* Developing and implementing the company's business strategies after an assessment of future business needs.
* Creating, executing and monitoring the performance of comprehensive business plans.
* Establishing internal company policies, procedures and legal protocols.
* Overseeing the investments, business ventures and financial stability of the company.
* Overseeing employment, professional development and employee performance activities.
* Establishing long-lasting relationships with shareholders and regulators.
* Creating a company culture and monitoring its adoption.
* Develop a collaborative working style and introduce best practice and simplified ways of working and effective processes.
* Develop and deliver an ambitious sustainable growth strategy in line with expectations and plans.
* Be proactive in the market with new development and new concepts which attract, excite and retain customers.
* Look to provide representation on key industry specific forums, to help raise awareness of the company, brand and success.
* Strive to achieve excellence in customer development ensuring that initiatives are aligned including CSR, Quality, R&D, Recycling etc.
* Development of relationships with key contacts across the industry, both current and prospective clients.
* Provide commercial input into contract negotiations and the tender process.
* Ability to perform in high-pressure situations due to fluctuations in workloads.
* Experience of health and safety and the value of maintaining ISO accreditations.

Expertise & Track Record Needed:

* A successful track record of growing commercial operations that have been run profitably, ideally packaging market.
* Significant experience of leadership roles within highly competitive, price led environment businesses.
* An effective figurehead who builds excellent relationships externally and internally. Pragmatic, able to coach and mentor but also willing to be hands on and "to do".

Person Specific skills

Essential Requirements:

* Leadership and Management: Proven experience leading and motivating teams, including experience in a senior management role (typically 7-10 years).
* Strategic Planning and Execution: Ability to develop and implement strategic business plans and drive growth initiatives.
* Financial Management: Strong understanding of financial principles, budgeting, and performance measurement.
* Industry Knowledge: Experience within the packaging industry, including knowledge of relevant regulations and best practices.
* Business Acumen: Understanding of market trends, competitive landscapes, and opportunities for business development.
* Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
* Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Ability to analyse complex situations, assess risks, and make sound decisions.
* Adaptability and Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing market conditions and manage diverse teams.
* ISO Standards: Knowledge and experience with ISO 9001 (Quality Management)
