Indirect Tax Director

We have an exciting opportunity to join our expanding EY Financial Services (“FS”) Indirect Tax team, specialising in VAT compliance for multi-national FS clients with advisory elements across all areas of the FS sector It is a varied role, supporting businesses across the spectrum of processes involved with indirect taxes (including analysis of intercompany flows, VAT return preparation, Making Tax Digital (“MTD”) compliance, the interaction of VAT and wider accounting), being at the forefront to help clients navigate the various opportunities and challenges the environment presents both now and in the future.

The role
You will lead on delivering indirect tax compliance work with advisory elements to clients, and work closely with EY colleagues across the globe, other areas of tax and broader EY advisory service lines to deliver on larger scale projects.

Your key responsibilities
1. Enthusiastic Director with ability to create, sustain and lead effective teams
2. Managing the successful delivery of the highest quality compliance output to clients, ensuring technical excellence alongside a practical/business focus approach
3. Taking day to day leadership of client delivery team
4. Helping people to develop through effectively supervising, coaching and mentoring team members
5. Significant involvement in the management of the team, both in terms of strategy and operations, and through managing junior staff development
6. Collaborating with other teams across EY to deliver a broad range of client solutions
7. Support and help drive the growth of the EY Financial Services Indirect Tax business and the team

8. Build and maintain tax relationships with clients and provide exceptional levels of client service
9. Business development skills - able to identify and convert opportunities to sell work by proactively managing existing clients
10. Overall responsibility for quality of client service
11. Manage possible leads from other areas of the practice to support clients
12. Develop networks and build & maintain relationships both within the firm and externally with clients, identifying opportunities and managing expectations
13. Contribute to successfully providing maximum value for both EY and clients from the tax services delivered whilst managing risk appropriately for both client and the firm

Qualifications and Experience
23. 8+ years’ experience in UK indirect tax advisory, ideally in FS or similar industry with a strong understanding of partial exemption, including with professional services background/experience
24. ACA/ACCA/CA; or Law qualification; CTA (or breadth of knowledge equivalent to CTA)
25. Business development skills, able to identify and convert opportunities to sell work
26. Ability to build strong client relationships
27. Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to motivate and develop team members
