Overview
We are looking for nurses who are forward thinking and strive for the highest standards of care, providing specialist trauma knowledge to patients, ward staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.
The role includes validation for the National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD), interpreting the data, and working with the current Trauma CNS, Planned Care Team and site teams in quality improvement projects to sustain compliance with the NHFD Key Performance Indicators.
The applicant will need to have an understanding of the South Wales Major Trauma Network and the current pathways for trauma services across South Wales. The successful candidate will lead and develop trauma-specific pathways, supporting and facilitating safe and effective management from admission to discharge. This role is full time for 37.5 hours over 7 days, including weekends and bank holidays, and works in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective delivery of high standards of nursing care.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist trauma knowledge to patients, ward staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.
* Lead and develop trauma-specific pathways; support and facilitate safe and effective management from admission to discharge.
* Validate NHFD data, interpret results, and drive quality improvement to sustain NHFD KPI compliance with the Trauma CNS, Planned Care Team and site teams.
* Demonstrate understanding of the South Wales Major Trauma Network and current trauma service pathways across South Wales.
* Daily monitoring of inpatients on the Trauma and Orthopaedic ward after surgery to ensure progression as planned and liaison with the relevant medical team.
* Collaborate with the Trauma Coordinator and Operating Theatre staff to coordinate urgent trauma surgery, considering outstanding trauma lists, equipment availability and surgical timing.
* Facilitate a culture that understands and meets the specialist and complex needs of trauma patients while working to meet performance targets (e.g., decreased length of stay).
* Coordinate patient pathways through collaboration with relevant services to ensure timely, appropriate and safe care.
* Expedite clinical intervention for all trauma patients to achieve NHFD clinical standards.
* Provide education and training to staff in Trauma and Orthopaedics, including nursing teams, students (nursing and medical), therapy teams and community services as required.
Qualifications
* Enthusiastic and motivated individual with experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
* Previous experience at Band 6 level.
