Overview
The Principal Mechanical Engineer’s main duties will be to lead a team of Mechanical Engineers reporting to the Discipline Lead M&E and act as MEP Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) and/or Lead Engineer on MEP projects allocated to them by the Discipline Lead M&E. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will be accountable for the design delivery of Mechanical Design allocated to MEP Projects involved in major projects within the Engineering discipline covering both rail and non-rail services. Ensuring projects are completed to meet all client’s requirements and applicable standards and to the agreed project programme. Ensuring projects are completed to the agreed budget.
Responsibilities
* Lead a team of Mechanical Engineers and report to the Discipline Lead M&E, acting as CRE and/or Lead Engineer on allocated MEP projects.
* Be accountable for the design delivery of Mechanical Design allocated to MEP Projects within major projects in rail and non-rail services.
* Ensure projects are completed to meet client requirements, applicable standards, and the agreed project programme.
* Ensure projects are completed to the agreed budget.
* Plan project works and provide forward view resource forecasting to enable the team leader to allocate suitable resources to the projects.
* Identify changes to client requirements and raise changes with the SYSTRA Project Management Team.
* Provide monthly cost-to-complete forecasts to the SYSTRA Project Management Team.
* Ensure the training and development needs of the mechanical team are met to serve the clients’/projects requirements.
* Maintain good relationships with external parties to enhance the company’s reputation and promote inter-discipline collaboration.
Experience / Qualifications
* Minimum HNC qualified in Mechanical Engineering or demonstrable equivalent experience. Ideally Chartered status.
* Significant experience and expertise to manage complex or non-standard design solutions.
* Detailed knowledge of mechanical services design within the built environment or transport infrastructure, including HVAC, Public Health, Building Physics, and BIM.
* Detailed knowledge of multi-disciplinary issues associated with M&E and building services.
* Detailed knowledge of construction principles and standards.
* Good understanding of CDM regulations and requirements.
* Good communication and presentation skills for external presentations to clients.
* Experience in managing a team of Mechanical engineers on allocated projects.
* Ability to maintain good relationships with engineers from other internal discipline teams to promote a “One Team” ethos.
