Health and Safety Advisor
Location: Brighton
Salary: £29,000 - £32,000 per annum
The College is seeking to appoint a Health and Safety Advisor, reporting to the Deputy Head of Health and Safety. The main purpose of the role is to coordinate, facilitate, manage, train, and promote continual improvement of Health and Safety awareness within the College. The successful candidate will have opportunities for career development in a challenging environment.
Responsibilities include:
1. Conduct property inspections, including Fire Safety and boarding accommodation assessments.
2. Assist with traffic and pedestrian safety management, liaising with residents and stakeholders.
3. Coordinate with contractors for maintenance work and oversee onsite contractor activities.
4. Provide administrative support such as minute-taking, document scanning, and email correspondence.
5. Manage DSE assessments and ensure staff follow-up actions.
6. Organize and communicate health and safety training programs for staff.
7. Manage the Health and Safety e-learning database and compile accident reports.
8. Support risk assessment reviews and policy updates.
9. Research and implement software solutions for CoSHH management.
10. Draft and review risk assessments, and advise on compliance with legislation.
11. Procure and monitor safety equipment and signage.
12. Maintain safety records and investigate incidents.
13. Attend and chair meetings in the absence of the Deputy Head of H&S.
14. Conduct risk assessments for new and expectant mothers.
15. Be actively involved around the college campus.
16. Perform additional duties as required by management.
Candidate Profile:
* Knowledge of safe working practices and GDPR principles.
* Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively.
* Full driving license for estate travel.
* Diplomatic, assertive, and solution-focused attitude.
* Experience in safeguarding and health and safety environments.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Level 3 qualification or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., NEBOSH, fire safety).
* IOSH qualification and accreditation preferred.
Working Hours and Remuneration:
Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, with occasional outside hours. Salary ranges from £29,000 to £32,000, plus holidays and benefits.
