Premises Manager – Preston

Salary: £37,000 – £39,000
A high-performing secondary school in Preston is seeking an experienced and proactive Premises Manager to join their team on a permanent, full‑time basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled estates or facilities professional to take a leading role in maintaining a safe, efficient and well‑managed school environment.
Your new roleAs Premises Manager, you will be responsible for the effective management, maintenance and development of the school site, buildings and grounds. You will ensure the highest standards of health and safety, security andpliance, working closely with the School Business Manager and the ICT Systems & Facilities Lead.You will lead the premises team, manage budgets, oversee contractors and service agreements, and ensure the school remains safe, operational and weing for pupils, staff and visitors. This role also includes responsibility for risk management, statutorypliance, and the ongoing development of the school estate.
Key responsibilities
1. Line manage, train and develop premises staff
2. Oversee the security of the school site and management of keys
3. Manage property maintenance budgets and procurement processes
4. Produce annual building development plans and written reports forernors
5. Oversee maintenance, repairs and energy management across the school
6. Managepliance for CCTV, access control and health & safety systems
7. Lead on all aspects of health and safety and risk management
8. Conduct regular site inspections, audits and risk assessments
9. Ensure statutory checks (fire safety, legionella, gas, electrical etc.) arepleted and recorded
10. Oversee cleaning and grounds maintenance contracts
11. Manage school minibuspliance, maintenance and staff training
12. Provide emergency access to the site during adverse weather or incidents
13. Liaise with external contractors, Lancashire County Council and Preston City Council as required
14. Ensure appropriate training, PPE and safe working practices for all site staff
15. Support school operations including room set‑ups, equipment movement and site cover
What you’ll need to succeed
16. Experience in premises, estates or facilities management (school experience desirable)
17. Ideally a NEBOSH qualification or IOSH Managing Safely
18. Knowledge of COSHH legislation
19. Experience of leadership and management within public service or a large organisation
20. Strong knowledge of health & safety legislation andpliance
21. Experience of procuring goods and services, ensuring best value
22. Experience of project management, including negotiations with contractors
23. Ability to lead a team and manage contractors effectively
24. Excellent organisational, planning and problem‑solving skills
25. A proactive, hands‑on approach with the ability to respond to emergencies
26. Strongmunication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across the school
