Electrical Design Engineer
Location: Barnstaple
Contract Type: Contract (12 months)
Clearance: BPSS to start then SC on project
Pay: Dependent on experience (Inside IR35)
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to support ongoing defence-related engineering programmes. This role offers a predominantly remote working arrangement, with occasional visits required to the Barnstaple site. The successful candidate will contribute to the design and development of cable systems intended for use in demanding, high-integrity environments.
Key Responsibilities
• Produce high-quality cable designs using E3 Zuken, ensuring alignment with project requirements and engineering standards.
• Select suitable components, materials, and methodologies to meet electrical, mechanical, and environmental specifications.
• Create and maintain part entries within the engineering parts library as required.
• Generate detailed drawings, documentation, and Bills of Materials (BoMs) to support manufacturing and integration activities.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to ensure compatibility, compliance, and seamless integration of designed solutions.
• Apply a methodical approach to problem solving, contributing innovative and robust design solutions.
• Ensure all work adheres to established quality processes, configuration control requirements, and project documentation standards.
• Manage workload proactively, maintaining accuracy and attention to detail across all design tasks.
Required Experience
• Degree, HND, or HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Strong experience in electrical/cable design, ideally within hostile or safety-critical environments.
• Proven capability in E3 Zuken cable design tooling (essential).
• Background in marine, military, or rail engineering environments (in order of priority).
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to remote and onsite teams.
• Strong communication skills, with a commitment to delivering high-quality engineering output.
