Liverpool Clinical Laboratories is the largest provider of pathology services in the Northwest. The work we do is clinically led and cutting edge, making us a regional reference centre for many specialist investigations. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic workforce within the Department of Haematology and Transfusion based at the Royal site of Liverpool Clinical Laboratories. This busy department operates 24 hours, is well equipped with modern automation and processes more than 470000 samples per annum. The post holder will be working under Agenda for Change terms and conditions, on a shift pattern covering Monday – Friday and some weekend hours.
Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts. The merger provides an opportunity to reconfigure services to provide the best healthcare services to the city and improve the quality of care and health outcomes for patients.
Responsibilities
* Support day-to-day activities of the Haematology and Transfusion Laboratories under the direction of qualified staff, as part of the pathology team.
* Process clinical specimens for biological testing and undertake associated supporting duties.
* Maintain instruments and run internal quality control in line with section policy; bring outliers to the attention of Biomedical Scientists.
* Undertake relevant unsupervised housekeeping laboratory duties in a timely and efficient manner as directed by departmental policy.
* Work with initiative and demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills.
* Adhere to the shift pattern and contribute to a 24-hour service as required.
Requirements / Qualifications
You will work under the direction of qualified staff and support the Haematology and Transfusion Laboratories. You should be able to work using your own initiative, demonstrating good interpersonal and communication skills. This role involves handling clinical specimens, instrument maintenance, QC procedures, and appropriate housekeeping tasks in a laboratory setting.
