As part of EastCleveland Group Primary Care Network's multi-disciplinary team, we are looking to appoint a trainee GP Assistant. The successful candidate will be based within one of our PCN member practices across Brotton, Guisborough, Loftus, and Skelton-in-Cleveland but may be required to work across any of our member practices and will work collaboratively to support the smooth running of clinics by performing a hybrid role supporting admin and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP.
Trainee GPAs will have experience of working in general practice and complete Health Education England's structured, accredited 6-month training programme which is aligned to the competency framework and, upon completion, provides a formal qualification. Further information is attached.

Duties and responsibilities will be dependent upon an individual undertaking a hybrid role which includes administrative and clinical tasks.

Job responsibilities
* Arranging patient appointments, referrals, tests, and follow-up consultations
* Completing simple clinical observations/investigations as directed, e.g., dipstick urine, taking blood pressure, ECG, and phlebotomy
* Supporting GPs with immunisations and wound care
* Completing basic (non-opinion) forms
* Completing core elements of specific forms for GP approval and signature, e.g., insurance, mortgage, and benefits agency forms
* Explaining treatment procedures to patients
* Assisting GPs to liaise with outside agencies, e.g., contacting an on-call doctor for advice, arranging patient admission
* Sorting, prioritising, and signposting clinical communications and letters (including medication changes where appropriate) for GP and other staff
* Extracting information from clinical letters for coding purposes and to add to patient notes
* Supporting QOF reviews such as LTC review
* Supporting surgery 'front of house' in managing patient demand, prioritisation of patients with urgent needs
* Supporting surgery and/or PCN database searches, audits, and quality improvement projects
* Where appropriate and agreed with supervisor, conducting visits to patients' residences to perform the above tasks
* Participating in an annual individual performance review
* Tracking and recording evidence of experience against the national competency framework
* Informing the lead GP of any concerns regarding the role and requesting professional development as required
* Awareness of own professional boundaries.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
* Knowledge and experience of using clinical systems including SystmOne and ICE
* Knowledge and experience of clinical coding
* Understanding legislation, policies, and procedures regarding infection prevention and control
* Knowledge and understanding of significant incident reporting
* Knowledge and understanding of Primary Care Network arrangements and their contribution to the NHS 10-Year Plan
* Understanding the application of person-centred approaches in health and social care and specifically in general practice
Experience
* Previous experience of working in NHS Primary Care and with healthcare professionals
* Relevant clinical experience working as a GPA or in a similar role
* Ability to support the implementation, monitoring, and review of care plans
* Understanding roles, responsibilities, and importance of risk assessment in infection prevention and control
* Basic consultation skills
* Experience of supporting people with mental health and working with vulnerable people
* Preparation and support of patients to undergo healthcare activities
Skills
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Excellent written, verbal, listening, and record-keeping skills
* Awareness of handling information in health and social care principles
* Problem solving
