Senior Engineer - Industrial Installation & Mechanical/Electrical Projects
Location: Based from South Yorkshire (UK & International Travel Required)
Salary: £40,000 - £42,000 + Uplifts for Working Away
Hours: Project‑based, Mon–Fri with required overtime during major installations
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to lead major mechanical and electrical installation projects across the UK, Europe and occasionally worldwide. The role sits within a specialist engineering firm delivering complex industrial solutions to high‑demand sectors including heavy industry, automation, and large‑scale process environments.
You will lead teams on-site, oversee large installations, carry out hands‑on technical work, and communicate directly with clients and project managers. This role is highly practical, requires strong problem‑solving skills, and involves managing both in‑house engineers and subcontractors depending on project size.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead installation teams (typically 4-5 engineers) under the guidance of the Operations Manager
* Hands‑on mechanical and electrical installation including:
* Large power cable installs (Apply online only)mm wide)
* Cable termination, containment and testing to European standards
* Mechanical installation of industrial plant, heavy machinery and structural equipment
* Attend morning briefings at the office and allocate workloads for the day
* Deliver RAMS, installation reports, updates and client handovers
* Maintain strong communication with project managers, clients, and subcontractors
* Manage deadlines and ensure installation work meets technical and safety standards
* Carry out 70% installation and 30% maintenance on industrial machinery and power systems
* Work in glass, metals, automated handling, industrial manufacturing and similar heavy‑duty environments
* Support junior engineers and ensure high-quality workmanship on every project
Working Away & Travel Expectations
* Travel time is fully paid
* Working away uplift
* +£2ph for work 2 hours away from depot
* +£4ph for work in Europe
* £25 per day living expenses + fuel card provided
* Typical project lengths: 2–4 weeks
* Maximum duration: usually 6 weeks, with rotation afterwards
* Overseas work approx. 30%, with increasing focus on UK-based projects
* Engineers are supported with rest time when needed — fatigue is always considered
What We’re Looking For
• Minimum Lv 3 Electrical or Mechatronics
• Strong background in heavy installation work (mechanical and electrical)
• Able to install, terminate and test large power cabling to high standards
• Experience in industrial machinery install projects, including heavy equipment
• Competent with cable containment, routing, traywork and mechanical fitting
• Hands-on engineer who leads by example and isn’t afraid to get stuck in
• Experience supervising engineers and subcontractors on-site
• Comfortable communicating directly with clients and project teams
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the UK and internationally
