Specialist Senior Speech and Language Therapist

The post holder will support the provision of the Autism Team to autistic individuals and complex healthcare needs across Lancashire and South Cumbria. You will be a registered Speech and Language Therapist who will undertake appropriately delegated work to support the care and treatment of autistic adults within the community and inpatient settings. You will be a key member of the multi‑disciplinary team and will work with the team to develop and deliver person‑centred care plans with the emphasis on preventing unnecessary hospital admissions. Where hospital admission is deemed appropriate, you shall support the inpatient team by providing intervention support regarding communication.
The post holder will work 30 hours per week between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. Some flexibility is required to meet the needs of the team and the wider network. Working days will align with team core meetings (currently Tuesday and Thursday, though subject to change).
Responsibilities
* Deliver routine speech and language therapy assessment and interventions for autistic adults in community and inpatient settings.
* Support the Specialist Autism Service model by assessing and addressing communication needs and creating person‑centred care plans.
* Participate in outreach and inpatient pathways, including duty work, assessments and specialist interventions.
* Collaborate with the multi‑disciplinary team (Occupational Therapists, Nurses, Social Workers, Therapy Assistants, Clinical Psychologists) to share knowledge and deliver integrated care.
* Reduce avoidable hospital admissions through early intervention and communication support.
Qualifications
* BSc or MSc in Speech and Language Therapy.
* Documented evidence of continuing professional development.
Knowledge
* Ability to support autistic people on an individual and group basis.
* Knowledge of evidence‑based practice and contemporary autism policy.
Experience
* Previous experience in learning disability, autism or mental health setting at or after qualification.
* Awareness of a range of SLT assessments and interventions.
* Broad range of undergraduate practice placement experience.

Salary
£39,959 to £48,117 a year per annum, pro rata.
