Clinical Nurse Specialist – Diabetes

Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes Service

We are looking for a fixed term Clinical Nurse Specialist (1.0 WTE Band 7) to cover maternity leave, with the contract finishing in August 2026.

Our multidisciplinary diabetes team provides a service for children and young people aged 0-19 years, incorporating paediatric, adolescent and young adult clinics. Our current service has an excellent reputation, with strong clinical and patient reported outcomes nationally. We have a large catchment across London and Southeast England where patients and families have chosen to transfer their care to us.


Main duties of the job

We require a Paediatric Nurse with proven experience in delivering paediatric and adolescent diabetes care, including at least one year working as a paediatric diabetes specialist nurse at band 6 level. You will be enthusiastic about improving standards of diabetes care, have excellent communication skills and an ability to work both autonomously and in collaboration with other professionals.

Person Specification


Knowledge and Qualifications

* Registered Nurse Child Branch
* First level registration with NMC
* Teaching/Assessment programme
* Educated to degree level or equivalent
* Completed/completing Master\'s Degree/ module with specific diabetes component


Experience

* Significant post registration experience nursing children and young people e.g. experience working on a children's ward
* Experience working as a specialist diabetes nurse (minimum one year at band 6 level)
* Leadership and management experience
* Experience of working with a diverse multidisciplinary team


Skills and Abilities

* Ability to work collaboratively and autonomously in a multidisciplinary environment
* Ability to manage a patient caseload
* Prioritises own workload
* Ability to lead and coordinate others to deliver care
* Self-motivated and enthusiastic individual


Communication

* Ability to communicate effectively with different disciplines within an MDT
* Communicates effectively verbally, in writing and in electronic formats


Personal and People Development

* Demonstrates evidence of up-to-date professional development
* Experience as a preceptor/ facilitator/ mentor
* Demonstrable ability to teach others


Responsibilities towards promoting Equality Diversity and Inclusion

* Demonstratable understanding of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion and/or Knowledge of the NHS obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duties

* Flexibility with working hours
* Taking part in nursing on call rota
