Strategic Design and Transition Programme – Strategy Policy Specialist – 32182
We are looking for an experienced Strategy and Policy Specialist to join our Strategic Design and Transition Programme. The role will consider the recommendations of the Independent Water Commission (IWC) and shape the future of the Environment Agency (EA) in safeguarding the environment and supporting sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high‑quality, balanced, evidence‑based advice to support future thinking around the IWC recommendation to create one single water regulator.
* Engage with colleagues across Government, within the EA, and with other regulators to ensure inclusive, forward‑thinking policy development.
* Embrace constructive challenge and diverse thinking while handling fast‑moving work demands.
* Take a flexible, collaborative approach and support other projects and workstreams within the programme when needed.
* Champion high‑performance, agile team culture and contribute to the resilience of a small, motivated team.
Qualifications and Experience
* Experience working with central government to develop policy, including collaboration with specialists such as economists and scientists.
* Ability to think and act strategically.
* Excellent communication and engagement skills, with the capability to translate complex or ambiguous information into clear, concise advice on short notice.
* Experience of working across boundaries and influencing at all levels of an organisation.

Work location: EA Office base with national flexibility; some overnight travel may be required. Applications are blind‑assessed. Interviews will be held via MS Teams within two weeks of the closing date.
