Role Description
The role is to support the delivery of Maritime Battlestaff (MBS) training and assurance exercises at the Portsmouth Naval Base, around the UK and overseas, using the latest synthetic environments and technologies to create an immersive exercise environment. The CIS Manager will be instrumental in the configuration, deployment, management and troubleshooting of the CIS environment within this programme, providing regular progress reports to project management and ensuring milestones are delivered on time.
Reporting to the MCAST Technical Delivery Manager, you will manage all aspects of the MCAST CIS environment including hardware and applications, and day-to-day technical tasks and resources, ensuring safe and timely completion of CIS infrastructure within cost and quality standards for the contract duration.
Responsibilities
* Create the CIS environment in which the exercise will be conducted.
* Manage MCAST service hardware; work with ILS engineers to deploy equipment safely and plan maintenance and upgrades.
* Attend and support project meetings and working groups (IPC, MPC, FPC).
* Collaborate with the CAX/Sim manager to design and deliver suitable CIS infrastructure.
* Coordinate with OPNET team, exercise delivery manager and infrastructure providers to plan and deliver complete infrastructure, including physical laydown, user accounts, access controls and external links.
* Undertake site recce with the exercise delivery team.
* Support rollout and testing of CIS infrastructure at exercise locations.
* During exercise delivery, lead the delivery team to train users, manage the CIS environment and update it to meet training needs.
The Candidate
This role suits those who enjoy delivering results and working closely with exercise delivery and technical teams to provide a seamless training experience. The role is based in Portsmouth with regular visits to HQ in Farnborough and other UK sites; occasional overseas travel may be required.
Experience and Skills
* Detailed understanding and practical implementation of CIS including setup, configuration, management, troubleshooting and training.
* Practical experience of network planning, deployment and recovery.
* Practical experience of hardware setup, configuration, maintenance and asset management.
* Experience of working across different levels of security within a single environment.
* Excellent organisation skills with the ability to multi-task.
* Clear and diplomatic communication; effective reporting up the chain of command.
* Expert user of the MS Office Suite.
