MSK Outpatient Physiotherapist

To provide a highly skilled physiotherapy assessment, education, advice and treatment service to outpatients referred by G.Ps & FCPs. Patient conditions will include musculoskeletal conditions (including post‑operative orthopaedics), arthritic conditions, and patients presenting with acute, chronic or complex spinal pain. The role includes supervising clinical students on placement and working in outpatient settings within the trust at GP surgeries, health centres or community clinics.
Main duties of the job
* Perform specialist physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations who may have complex physical and psychological conditions.
* Hold responsibility for own caseload, working with indirect supervision and peer review. Access for advice and support from a senior physiotherapist is available if required.
* Undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
* Supervise, mentor, and assess physiotherapy students to graduate standard and ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets university standards.
* Carry out evidence‑based audit projects to develop and enhance personal and team clinical practice across the service.
* Participate in formal research projects.
* Participate in ongoing service developments with more senior colleagues.

You will provide highly skilled physiotherapy assessment, education, advice and treatment service to outpatients referred by G.Ps. Successful candidates must be prepared to work at any of our clinics in Hillingdon borough, with some evening work included.
Job responsibilities
* Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own clinical practice.
* Undertake comprehensive assessment of patients, including diverse or complex presentations or multiple pathologies, using specialist knowledge, clinical reasoning skills and specialist manual assessment techniques to provide a clinical diagnosis.
* Formulate and deliver specialised individual or group physiotherapy treatment programmes, based on a sound knowledge of treatment skills underpinned by theoretical knowledge and experience.
* Include patient education, exercise classes, electrotherapy techniques, manual physiotherapy techniques (e.g., mobilisation and joint manipulation); alternative forms such as acupuncture may also be used.
* Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes as required.
* Formulate soundly reasoned clinical diagnoses and prognoses, making recommendations for the best course of intervention, developing short and long‑term goals negotiated with patients, leading to a comprehensive discharge plan.
* Work in the community setting, which may include lone working with telephone support from a senior physiotherapist if required.
* Be responsible for the safe and competent use of all electrotherapy equipment, gym equipment and appliances used by patients.
Qualifications
* Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent.
* HCPC Registration.
Previous Experience
* Significant experience at Junior level covering all basic rotations.
* Previous experience in Outpatient Musculoskeletal conditions.
* Previous NHS or equivalent experience.
* Working knowledge of Clinical Governance issues.
* Flexible approach to service needs, prepared to work in any location.
* Ability to listen and reflect.
Skills and knowledge
* Evidence of musculoskeletal CPD.
* Clinical audit skills.

* Ability to work with distressed or aggressive patients.
* Flexible approach to work practice.
