Job Title: Senior Estates Engineer (Mechanical)
Location: Birmingham
Salary: £45,000 + bonuses
Hours: Monday/Friday 8-4. 37.5 hours a week.
About The Role
We are recruiting for an experienced engineering professional to support the delivery of a high-quality estates and maintenance service across a large healthcare contract in Birmingham.
This role will support the Technical Services Manager in overseeing day‑to‑day operations, ensuring compliance, managing teams, and maintaining critical building services. You will work across multiple sites and play a key role in ensuring facilities remain safe, efficient, and fully operational.
Key Responsibilities
* Support and deputise for the Technical Services Manager
* Plan and schedule PPM activities in line with statutory requirements and HTMs
* Oversee reactive and planned maintenance across building services
* Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and statutory legislation
* Manage subcontractors and suppliers to meet service level agreements
* Monitor response times, repair quality, and overall performance
* Assist with budget control, stock management, and financial processes
* Carry out audits and quality checks on completed work
* Ensure safe systems of work and compliance across all activities
* Attend meetings with internal teams and stakeholders
* Assist with condition surveys and lifecycle planning
Team Leadership
* Supervise and manage engineering staff on a day‑to‑day basis
* Conduct appraisals, performance reviews, and return‑to‑work interviews
* Manage rota planning, attendance, and resource allocation
* Deliver training sessions and toolbox talks
* Liaise with other departments and managers to ensure service delivery
* Supervise contractors, including RAMS review and site inspections
Technical Duties
* Support maintenance across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fabric systems
* Assist in managing energy efficiency and plant performance
* Maintain accurate records using CAFM systems
Additional Duties
* Carry out inspections, audits, and compliance checks
* Support lifecycle and minor works project delivery
* Provide administrative cover when required
Requirements
Essential:
* City & Guilds or equivalent in an engineering discipline
* Experience within a maintenance or estates environment
* Strong organisational and communication skills
* IT literate (Microsoft Office and CAFM systems)
* Ability to manage teams and work independently
