Mental Health Crisis Worker (Crisis Safe Space)
Open Mental Health is an alliance of local voluntary organisations and the NHS, working together to ensure residents of Somerset receive timely support. Our shared goal is to provide individuals with mental health problems access to the right support at the right time, including specialist mental health services, housing support, debt and employment advice, volunteering opportunities, community activities, and physical exercise to enhance wellbeing and quality of life.
Main duties of the job
We are developing community crisis provision in Sedgemoor and Mendip, seeking experienced, enthusiastic, and empathetic individuals who prioritize community needs. The role involves providing a safe, welcoming space for those experiencing acute emotional distress or seeking to prevent a crisis. You will offer therapeutic and non-clinical support, empowering clients with planning, grounding techniques, coping mechanisms, and identifying ongoing support. Peer volunteers will assist in facilitating activities and group work.

Job responsibilities
* Deliver services in a warm, welcoming manner, demonstrating ambition and hope for all users.
* Build trusting, collaborative relationships with service users.
* Utilize a Trauma and Psychologically Informed approach, employing interventions such as motivational interviewing, brief interventions, and solution-focused strategies to engage clients.
* Adhere to Second Step policies, procedures, values, code of conduct, and current legislation, employing a recovery-oriented, psychologically informed, and equality-based approach.
Person Specification
Experience
* At least two years of significant experience working with individuals with mental health needs or complex needs.
* Proven experience working with individuals with multiple needs (e.g., mental health, homelessness, substance dependency, long-term conditions).
* Experience conducting needs and risk assessments and support planning.
* Experience supporting individuals with competing needs and priorities.
* Knowledge of mental health issues and services, either as a user, carer, or supporter.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A Disclosure check will be required to assess any previous criminal convictions.
