Job Description:
Following its recent acquisition by SLR, Wardell Armstrong now forms part of a leading global environmental and sustainability consultancy working on projects across the world from over 100 offices. We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Director to support and grow the Leeds Ground Engineering team consisting of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineers, managing existing clients and developing new business across the region.
Overview of team / business area
The Land Quality & Remediation team undertakes site assessment, investigation, and reporting for diverse clients. You will manage bids, projects, fieldwork, data, and lead report preparation to advise clients. Our Ground Engineering team is one of Wardell Armstrong’s largest disciplines, now with SLR, comprising approximately 80 consultants working on geotechnical, geo-environmental, and geological projects nationwide.
The role
You will manage a team of Engineers, alongside business development, financial management, client relationship building, and project management. Projects span sectors like energy, property development, infrastructure, mining, local authorities, and waste management.
About you
Candidates should be degree qualified and ideally chartered, with at least 10 years of consultancy experience. You should understand and manage technical inter-relationships to add value and support business development.
Skills/experience include:
* Strong communication skills for technical reports and documents.
* Understanding of water, ground, and soil gas site investigation techniques.
* Knowledge of contaminated land regulations and legislation.
* Familiarity with UK soil and rock strata and geohazards.
* Experience logging soils and rocks per British Standards.
* Ability to interpret geological maps and data.
* Designing and justifying site investigation works using conceptual models.
* Completing Phase I & II assessments.
* Experience with various clients like house builders, developers, contractors, and infrastructure projects.
* Knowledge of UK ground conditions and investigation practices.
