We are looking for a Consultant Anaesthetist with an Interest in Major General Anaesthesia. This post will be based at Morriston Hospital and will support general lists at the Planned Care Centre of Excellence at Singleton Hospital, as well as the care of medically complex orthopaedic and urological patients in Morriston Hospital.
The successful candidate will join a team of 82 Consultants responsible for the provision of anaesthetic services across the Health Board. The post will be based at Morriston Hospital but will involve sessions at Neath Port Talbot Hospital and Singleton Hospital through planned lists (please see provisional job plan) and '"flexible in year"' (FIY) sessions.
Main duties of the job
The on‑call commitment will be to the hybrid General Rota at Morriston Hospital. This will include burns admissions out of hours and urgent burns surgery in‑hours on the weekend. The on‑call, out of hours, Consultant Rota is split into two tiers. The first on‑call is the initial responder and the second on‑call will provide support within the health board, where deemed necessary by the first on‑call and the clinical requirement at that time. The frequency of weekday on‑calls will be 1:16. Weekend cover will be 1 in 8, split between resident “in‑hours” and non‑resident “out of hours” work.
The provisional job plan includes a “flexible in year” component. These sessions are included in order to both support a candidate’s specialist interests as well as providing the department with the ability to facilitate availability against clinical need. The booking of flexible sessions will be by mutual agreement with appropriate notice. The flexible component is undertaken within areas of the consultant’s competence or sub‑specialist interest across all sites.
