The Opportunity
An established civil engineering contractor is delivering a major highways infrastructure scheme in Oxfordshire and is seeking an experienced Site Agent to play a key role during the construction phase.
This is a hands-on leadership position, ideal for someone with a strong background in highways, structures, and NEC-based projects who enjoys managing teams, coordinating site activities, and driving safe, high-quality delivery on complex infrastructure works.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support Site Engineers and Section Engineers on site
Assist the Project Manager with day-to-day delivery of the construction phase
Coordinate labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors to meet programme requirements
Contribute to short- and long-term planning, including method statements and work package plans
Monitor progress against programme and budget, escalating risks where necessary
Maintain accurate site records, reports, and diaries
Ensure works are delivered in line with specification, quality standards, and environmental requirements
Manage subcontractor performance and maintain effective supplier relationships
Work closely with commercial and planning teams to ensure timely reporting
Promote and enforce high standards of Health & Safety across the site
Chair and attend regular site meetings and briefings
Support project close-out activities and handover documentation
Actively contribute to and promote a positive safety-first culture
Required Experience & Qualifications
Essential
Proven experience in a Site Agent or similar role within civil engineering
Strong technical understanding of highways and infrastructure works
Sound working knowledge of NEC contracts
HNC (or higher) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
SMSTS certification
First Aid at Work
Solid understanding of CDM and current Health & Safety legislation
Strong communication and leadership skills
Desirable
Experience on major highways schemes and/or bridge structures
Experience managing a standalone site or a section of a larger project
Temporary Works Coordinator certification
CPCS Appointed Person (Lifting Operations)
Good planning and organisational skills
Working knowledge of AutoCAD
