Permanent

Full Time

Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 31 primary schools (19 with nurseries), and 4 standalone nurseries. Our special school, Saltersgate, supports children with various physical, social, emotional, behavioural, and learning difficulties. Schools vary from small primary schools with around 50 pupils to large secondary schools with over 1600 pupils, serving diverse rural and urban communities. We have new build schools, with several constructed in the last 10 years and more planned.

Saltersgate seeks an Art & Drama teacher to work with learners aged 5-18, with a range of medical, communication, and social needs. You will develop expressive art skills and help senior students achieve qualifications. Join a team committed to nurturing, continuous improvement, and innovative engagement strategies.

Interviews will be held on Wednesday 11th June 2025.

Requirements

Pre-Employment Checks

Employment is conditional on satisfactory completion of checks, including medical screening, two references (one from your current employer), verification of qualifications, and eligibility to work in the UK. Registration with the General Teaching Council and a PVG check for Regulated Work with Children are required.

Registration and PVG Scheme

Applicants for permanent posts must be registered with the GTCS. Details at www.gtcs.org.uk. This role is considered Regulated Work with Children under the PVG scheme. Successful candidates must join the PVG Scheme or update their membership before starting. The scheme fee (£59 for full membership, £18 for updates) will be deducted from salary over several pay periods. Disclose any unspent convictions in your application; failure to do so may lead to withdrawal of an offer. Having a criminal record does not automatically disqualify you; suitability depends on the offence and circumstances. More info at www.disclosurescotland.co.uk.
