<div><h3>Senior Probation Officer – HMP Thameside (2558B)</h3><p>Published: May 2, 2026</p><p><b>About the role</b></p><p>This is a full-time temporary contract for 6 months, based at HMP Thameside.</p><p>This is a senior-level opportunity within the Probation Service, offering the chance to lead a team, support operational delivery, and contribute directly to public protection and reducing reoffending within a custodial environment.</p><p><b>The post is paying</b></p><ul><li>£26.02 per hour PAYE</li><li>£34.26 per hour Umbrella</li></ul><p><b>Overview of the Role</b></p><p>As a Senior Probation Officer (SPO), you will take on a leadership role, managing staff and overseeing the delivery of high-quality offender management. You will ensure that operational standards are met, policies are implemented effectively, and that the team contributes to reducing reoffending and protecting the public.</p><p>The role requires strong leadership, organisational skills, and a thorough understanding of probation practice, risk management, and multi‑agency working.</p><p><b>Duties and Responsibilities</b></p><ul><li>Managing a team to deliver effective Offender Management and achieve high standards of public protection</li><li>Providing day‑to‑day leadership, performance management, and support to staff</li><li>Ensuring effective allocation, monitoring, and completion of work within the teamContributing to multi‑agency public protection arrangements and partnership working</li><li>Reviewing casework and providing feedback to maintain quality and compliance</li><li>Supporting change management initiatives and driving improvements in quality and efficiency</li><li>Ensuring implementation of policies, procedures, and National Standards</li><li>Maintaining accurate records using NDelius and OASys</li><li>Promoting and ensuring compliance with Health & Safety policies</li><li>Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal teams and external agencies</li><li>Championing equality, diversity, and inclusion</li><li>Supporting the wider operational objectives of the Probation Service</li><li>Undertaking additional duties appropriate to the role as required</li></ul><p><b>Person Specification</b></p><ul><li>A recognised Probation Officer qualification (PQF Graduate Diploma/ Honours Degree in Community Justice with Level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice, or equivalent recognised qualification)</li><li>Experience working within a recognised provider of probation services within the last 5 years</li><li>Management experience, including day‑to‑day staff and performance management</li><li>Experience contributing to public protection through multi‑agency working and case review</li><li>Experience of managing or supporting change and improving service delivery</li><li>Strong knowledge of offender management, risk assessment, and public protection frameworks</li><li>Experience using NDelius and OASys systems</li><li>Understanding of Health & Safety legislation in the workplace</li><li>Knowledge of victim engagement considerations</li><li>Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines</li><li>Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across agencies</li><li>Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)</li><li>Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends</li><li>Strong knowledge of the Criminal Justice System, Probation Service, legislation, and National Standards</li><li>Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion</li></ul><p>The Red Snapper Recruitment Group is an equal opportunities employer.</p></div>
