Labourer Operative
Job Purpose
As a Labourer Operative, you will support the Maintenance team in providing a high-quality service, ensuring the upkeep of designated areas by carrying out general and specific duties as directed.
Responsibilities
You will carry out general portering, cleaning, grounds maintenance, and decorating duties as requested by the client via the Mitie Management team. Routine checks on plant and equipment will be part of your role to ensure optimum conditions are achieved. You will address any acute internal issues, such as blocked drains, toilets, and minor spillages. Painting and decorating tasks will be performed as agreed and directed by management. Reporting of breakdowns and faults will be essential. You should be aware of the business continuity plan for the part of the business you work in.
What We Are Looking For
We seek candidates with demonstrable previous experience as a handyperson or Building & Civils Operative or interested in that field. Physical dexterity and manual handling ability are crucial. General DIY skills are required, and you will assist with planned maintenance, minor building fabric repairs, routine water hygiene tasks, minor electrical repairs, and grounds maintenance activities as needed. Experience in aspects of groundwork, brickwork, concreting, and hard and soft landscaping is desirable but not essential. You will also perform contractor escort duties and must be able to work in a demanding and busy area. Basic computer knowledge is desirable.
Good communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential. You should be flexible and adaptable in your approach to work, with a friendly and approachable manner. The ability to work both as an individual and as a team player is important. A proactive approach to work, the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and maintaining high standards of delivery with attention to detail are crucial. You should be driven to complete tasks above expectations, diligent, professional, and intuitive. Willingness to work additional hours in line with any reasonable request is required.
Desirable Qualifications
Previous maintenance experience in a commercial environment is desirable. General DIY skills, including joinery, painting, and basic repair tasks, are beneficial. Flexibility to carry out duties not specific to your trade is important. A full clean driving licence is required. Knowledge of Health & Safety and safe working practices is desirable, and all mandatory safety training will be provided. Specialist training such as IPAF and PASMA will be offered. Understanding the relevance of toolbox talks, Permit to Work procedures, and safe systems of working is important. Flexibility over working hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required to ensure work is coordinated and completed. A strong customer care focus is essential. You must be willing to undergo a BPSS check for this role.
