Job Description:
We are seeking a qualified Solicitor with substantial experience in this area of law. This role offers an opportunity to develop and enhance your skills through varied and quality work.
You will work as part of a team of Contract Lawyers, providing proactive legal advice on issues including Public Contract Regulations, Company law, Subsidy Control, NEC and JCT construction Contracts, and general contract queries. You will manage a full, varied, and demanding caseload.
Senior Lawyers will participate in team management and may deputise for the Principal Solicitor, contributing to the delivery of high-quality legal services.
We are looking for an effective, dynamic individual with some experience in managing and supervising teams, and the ability to motivate others and work collaboratively.
Shortlisting Criteria
Applicants must be Solicitors, Barristers, or Fellows of CILEX, eligible to practice in England and Wales, with a current practicing certificate. Experience in negotiating and drafting construction contracts, service agreements, and facilities management services is required. The ability to provide solutions-focused advice and learn quickly about new subjects is essential. Effective teamwork, managing priorities, client and project meeting participation, and advising Members and Senior Officers of the Council are also necessary.
The role is hybrid; remote work will be considered. Occasional office attendance may be required, with the candidate expected to collect their laptop from the Reigate office on the first day.
The role involves managing a team of lawyers, providing leadership, supervision, and expert legal advice to the County Council, its members, officers, and committees. It contributes to the wider management of Legal Services and embodies the council's values and behaviors.
You will handle a demanding caseload, deliver innovative solutions with minimal supervision, and support the council's goal to reduce reliance on external legal support. Advocacy may be required, and the role includes assisting the Monitoring Officer with legal compliance issues.
Additionally, the role involves training staff within the Council to stay updated on legal issues and emerging developments.
