Doctoral Programmes Officer

The Doctoral College supports and enriches the experience of doctoral researchers and plays a key role in developing policy and strategy for doctoral study. It also supports recruitment to doctoral study programmes, manages student and programme administration, provides professional skills development and helps students to feel supported, from enquiry through to graduation, wherever and however they choose to study.

We wish to appoint a Professional Doctorate Programme Officer who will lead the administrative team supporting students on the Doctorate in Education (EdD), Doctorate in Health (DHealth) and Doctorate in Policy Research and Practice (DPRP).

About The Role

Professional doctorate programmes allow experienced professionals to develop their expertise and study for a doctorate without having to take a full career break. They are part‑time distance learning programmes, with students attending the University of Bath for short term blocks of teaching.

You will be responsible for the direct line management of two Doctoral Programmes Administrators, and for overseeing the effective administration of all administrative processes associated with the three professional doctorate programmes in the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences (EdD, DHealth, DPRP).

You Will Have Specific Responsibility For The Administration Of One Professional Doctorate Programme. Working With The Academic Director Of Studies To Ensure That The Programme Is Run Efficiently And Effectively, You Will Be

* responsible for managing the progression and examination processes for all students on the programme; making sure that they occur in a timely manner and according to all relevant University regulations.
* in regular communication with students, you will be a key point of contact for the programme across the University. Our students are usually mid‑career professionals with busy full‑time careers, who bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the programme.
* part of the wider Doctoral College and will work collaboratively with academic and other professional service colleagues, to support and enhance the experience of all applicants to, and students on, the programme.

About You

The role comprises an exciting mix of both taught and research student administration. Recognising that this mix of experience is rare, we welcome applications from colleagues with a range of different backgrounds (not just from HE), who, whilst may not have direct experience of such programmes, can demonstrate an ability to adapt to new challenges.

We Are Looking For Someone Who

* has excellent organisational skills
* can work to deadlines on their own initiative
* has the ability to learn new systems and procedures
* is keen to proactively identify and implement positive changes
* has excellent communication skills, and who can engage with the wide range of individuals and groups
* is able to mentor and motivate the programme administrators, who they will line manage, to deliver their tasks and develop their skills

Further information

This role is a full‑time position (36.5 hours per week) on a permanent basis. We currently operate a hybrid model such that staff can mix working from home and in the office on campus.
