We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Staff Nurse to join our Bronchoscopy and Interventional Radiology Recovery team at the Royal Brompton Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work within our state-of-the-art Diagnostic Centre, which opened in January 2022 and features two procedural rooms, a fluoroscopy room, and a specialized recovery suite.
In this role, you will be part of the largest specialist heart and lung centre in the UK, contributing to the care of patients undergoing complex procedures under moderate sedation or general anaesthesia. We offer a unique work-life balance with a shift pattern of four days per week, Monday through Friday, between 07:30 and 17:30 (with occasional adjustments until 19:00). Importantly, there are no night, weekend, or on-call requirements for this post.
You will work under the supervision of our Senior Sister/Charge Nurse and alongside a world-class multidisciplinary team to maintain excellent standards of nursing care. Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for providing holistic care to patients throughout the pre, peri, and post-procedural phases. Key responsibilities include:
1. Clinical Care: Monitoring and supporting patients undergoing bronchoscopy and interventional radiological procedures.
2. Technical Skills: Preparing and operating medical equipment such as infusion pumps, ECG monitors, and blood pressure monitors. You will also be responsible for inserting and removing peripheral cannulas.
3. Patient Communication: Conducting pre-screening telephone questionnaires, preparing patients for tests, and providing vital health promotion and discharge information.
4. Procedural Support: Assisting as a ‘scrub nurse’ during procedures and recovering patients post-sedation or anaesthesia.
5. Safety & Risk: Identifying and reporting clinical risks and ensuring all nursing documentation is maintained to Trust standards.
6. Team Collaboration: Working cohesively with the respiratory and IR medical teams, pharmacy, and other multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As a Grade 5 Staff Nurse, you will be accountable to the Lead Nurse/Modern Matron and will play a vital role in the day-to-day management of the recovery unit.
Clinical Excellence and Research You will assess, plan, and evaluate individual care requirements using designated care plans. You are expected to demonstrate research awareness and participate in nursing audits and benchmarking to achieve agreed standards of care. You will also use ECG interpretation, airway management, and suctioning skills as required by the clinical situation.
Professional Development and Teaching The Trust is committed to your growth. You will be expected to complete a specific training programme for bronchoscopy/IR assistance and recovery. Once competent, you will liaise with and supervise junior staff, student nurses, and support workers, acting as a mentor and resource within the department. You will also participate in the Trust’s appraisal and personal development plan schemes.
Resource and Information Management Main responsibilities include the safe management of medications and the effective use of resources through self-rostering. You will utilize the Trust's electronic information systems to access results and maintain accurate patient records.

10. Registered Nurse with Active NMC Pin number
11. Training to a diploma/degree level
12. post-registration experience working in an acute setting of respiratory or general medicine and/or bronchoscopy/IR.
Previous experience

14. Ability to demonstrate application of the NHS Plan to own sphere of practice
15. Awareness of the function of the bronchoscopy/IR Recovery unit
