Job Overview
Rota – 35 hours per week: Monday – Thursday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Friday 8:00 am – 1:00 pm. Out-of-hours call‑outs – rostered – 1 in 4 weeks (paid at an additional rate).
Please note: due to the nature of the role, flexibility surrounding core hours is essential.
Overall Responsibility
Steam Mechanical Engineer responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing site steam‑based systems, ensuring compliance with safety, efficiency, and regulatory standards.
Core Responsibilities
* Perform planned and reactive maintenance on industrial boilers, steam pipework, and condensate systems.
* Ensure all steam systems meet health, safety, and statutory requirements.
* Diagnose and fix mechanical, electrical, and control issues within steam plants.
* Improve efficiency and reliability of heating, cooling, and steam generation processes.
* Handle mechanical repairs and improvements to company properties.
* Conduct mechanical tests and maintain documentation.
* Respond to reactive work orders.
* Install, repair, and modify copper and iron pipework throughout the site.
* Operate and test steam controls of site boilers (BOAS training provided).
* Operate and maintain the site biomass boiler.
* Carry out feed‑water and boiler‑water analysis.
Qualifications and Experience
* City & Guilds Mechanical installation qualification.
* Steam qualification or equivalent experience.
* IT literacy.
* Experience working in a busy environment to tight deadlines.
* Experience maintaining steam boilers.
* Planning and execution of preventive maintenance.
* HVAC and LTHW boiler experience.
* Controls experience.
* Understanding of pressure system regulation.
* Installation experience.
* Fault finding skills.
