The role
As part of SSEN Transmission's Offshore Portfolio, we have an opportunity for a Senior Substation Engineer to join our Offshore AC Project Engineering team. This role will support our Island projects, facilitating the connection to HVDC systems with state-of-the-art AC plant, grid control, and stabilization technology.
You will
* Review and approve primary substation designs from 33kV to 400kV, including Single Line Diagrams, Electrical layouts, and Scope of Work documentation.
* Promote best practices within substation design, suggesting improvements in specifications, technological innovations, and risk management.
* Lead decision-making processes and support other projects through peer reviews.
* Support and direct Project Engineers within their remit, providing technical expertise and supporting recruitment, training, and development.
* Advise on the performance of external engineering consultants and contractors involved in our projects.
You have
* Demonstrable experience in transmission development/design/specification, ideally up to 400kV, with the ability to assess technical issues and solutions.
* Strong understanding of relevant legislation, including CDM & ESQCR, and their implications for assets and projects.
* Effective communication skills for conveying complex technical information to senior management.
* Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and build strong relationships.
* A degree in Electrical or relevant engineering discipline, with Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
