Pay Rate - £15.59 - 19.75 per hour
Contract - Until 27/11/2026
As a Personal Assistant to the Chief Network Operator, you will provide high‑level administrative and organisational support to ensure the smooth delivery of network operations and strategic objectives. This role involves managing schedules, coordinating meetings, handling emails and correspondence, and acting as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders. You will play a vital role in enabling the Chief Network Operator to focus on driving innovation and operational excellence across the network.
About the team
The Network Operations team sits within Network Rail’s System Operator function. System Operator supports our operational colleagues in the regions and functions – in the medium to long term, setting policies, developing processes and suggesting improvements – and in the immediate term, responding at pace, providing critical information such as station footfall data, overhauling the timetable and reshaping the network. As one of System Operator’s five business units, Network Operations considers how we run the railway as a system, one that is interconnected and flowing, but also safe and resilient.
The Network Operations leadership team is a busy, but close‑knit team, and teamwork is essential. As the Personal Assistant, you will act as representative for the Chief Network Officer and the wider Network Operations team.
What does the average day look like?
Your day will be dynamic and varied, centred around managing the Chief Network Operator’s busy calendar and ensuring every commitment runs smoothly. Acting as the go‑to contact for the Chief Network Officer, you will need to manage complex relationships and demonstrate confidence in your role. You’ll manage the Chief Network Officer’s inbox, organise and lead events, coordinate meetings, and attend key sessions to take accurate notes and track actions. Supporting deliverables and projects will be a core part of your role, ensuring deadlines are met and priorities stay on track. This position offers the chance to work closely with key stakeholders, providing essential support that keeps operations efficient and strategic objectives moving forward.
Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for a highly organised and proactive individual with exceptional time management skills and the ability to stay ahead in a fast‑paced environment. You’ll have a talent for digesting complex information quickly, identifying key actions, problem solving and ensuring nothing falls through the cracks. With experience of managing complex, busy diaries and inboxes on behalf of senior management, forward‑thinking and planning are second nature to you. You can confidently manage multiple moving parts, understanding how they interact to deliver successful outcomes.
It’s not necessary for you to have rail industry experience, in fact what will set you apart is your motivation, expertise and natural flair for dealing with people at all levels with tact and diplomacy; however experience of working in a complex, safety‑critical environment in either the private or public sector would be beneficial.
If you thrive on organisation, precision, and supporting senior leaders to achieve their goals, this role is for you.
