Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist – Spinal Injuries
Join the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust for a Band 7 Occupational Therapist role specialising in spinal cord injury (SCI). The role is based at Salford Royal Hospital and operates as part of the Greater Manchester Spinal Cord Injury Outreach Team, supporting off‑site visits and reviews across Greater Manchester.
Responsibilities
* Work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team including physiotherapists, SCI nurse, assistant practitioner, SCI psychologist and SCI rehabilitation consultant.
* Provide specialist OT assessment and treatment for complex spinal cord injury patients in a variety of clinical settings, including critical care, trauma, neurosurgical, spinal wards, INRU, outreach to hospitals, rehab facilities and community settings.
* Lead and complete complex assessments, develop treatment plans, recommend rehabilitation, commence rehabilitation processes, support patient flow, and maintain accurate records as an autonomous practitioner.
* Lead on assessment, liaison and decision‑making on behalf of the MDT, and liaise and communicate with external agencies as needed.
* Serve as a source of expertise in SCI, delivering formal and informal teaching as required.
* Lead OT teams in evidence‑based, client‑centred care and monitor the improvement of standards through clinical audit and research.
* Act autonomously, professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of work, managing own caseload and maintaining accurate and timely records.
Qualifications
* Experience in spinal cord injury assessment and treatment.
* Enthusiasm for developing leadership and service‑improvement skills.
* Capability to work autonomously and manage own caseload.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary and external teams.
