We’re looking for passionate Tutors to join our team to deliver either Adult Care Apprenticeship Programmes and Diplomas or Children, Young People, and Families Apprenticeship Programmes and Diplomas across community and residential pathways.
We have flexible roles available, whether full-time or part-time, and we’re open to discussing your preferred working arrangements if you’re the right fit.
An Apprenticeship Tutor plays a critical role in supporting and guiding apprentices through their training and development journey. Here are the key responsibilities of an Apprenticeship Tutor:
1. Teaching and Training
* Delivering Instruction: Provide structured learning sessions, both theoretical and practical, that align with the apprenticeship standards and frameworks.
* Skill Development: Help apprentices develop the technical and soft skills required for their specific industry or occupation.
* Individualised Learning Plans: Tailor training to meet the individual needs of each apprentice, taking into account their prior knowledge, skills, and experience.
2. Assessment and Feedback
* Regular Assessments: Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor apprentices' progress, ensuring they meet the required competencies and standards.
* Feedback Provision: Provide constructive feedback on performance, helping apprentices identify areas for improvement and build on their strengths.
* Portfolio Development: Support apprentices in compiling evidence of their learning and achievements, often in the form of a portfolio.
3. Mentoring and Support
* Guidance and Advice: Offer pastoral care and support, helping apprentices navigate challenges and stay motivated throughout their apprenticeship.
* Career Development: Assist apprentices in planning their career paths, offering advice on further training and opportunities for progression.
* Problem-Solving: Address any issues or concerns that arise during the apprenticeship, whether they are related to the work environment, learning challenges, or personal matters.
4. Liaison and Coordination
* Employer Engagement: Work closely with employers to ensure that the apprenticeship is aligned with the needs of the business and that apprentices are gaining relevant experience.
* Compliance and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of apprentices' progress and achievements, ensuring compliance with apprenticeship standards and regulatory requirements.
5. Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement
* Monitoring Standards: Ensure that the training provided meets the quality standards set by awarding bodies and regulatory agencies.
* Continuous Improvement: Reflect on the effectiveness of teaching methods and materials, making adjustments to improve the learning experience and outcomes.
* Professional Development: Stay updated with industry trends, educational practices, and changes in apprenticeship standards to provide high-quality instruction.
* Programme Development: Designing, inputting and supporting the wider team to amend, write and improve our apprenticeship programmes.
6. End-Point Assessment (EPA) Preparation
* Preparation for EPA: Prepare apprentices for their end-point assessment by conducting mock assessments and ensuring they understand the requirements.
* EPA Coordination: Coordinate with external assessors and ensure that apprentices are ready for the final assessment that determines their qualification.
7. Record Keeping and Administration
* Documentation: Maintain detailed records of apprentices’ progress, assessment outcomes, and any interventions or support provided.
* Reporting: Prepare reports for employers, training providers, and regulatory bodies as required.
By fulfilling these responsibilities, Apprenticeship Tutors play a vital role in ensuring that apprentices successfully complete their programs and are well-prepared for their careers.
Qualifications
1. Relevant Industry Experience:
* Practical Experience: Significant hands-on experience in the relevant industry or trade is usually required.
* Professional Certifications: Holding relevant certifications or licenses in the sector.
2. Educational Qualifications:
* Teaching Qualifications: A formal teaching or training qualification, such as a Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) or equivalent, is required.
* Assessing Qualifications: Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) or equivalent.
* Degree or Vocational Qualification: A relevant degree or higher vocational qualification in the subject area may be required.
3. Knowledge of Apprenticeship Standards:
* Understanding of Apprenticeship Frameworks/Standards: Familiarity with the specific apprenticeship standards, frameworks, and qualifications relevant to the field.
* Up-to-date Knowledge: Awareness of current industry practices, trends, and regulatory requirements.
4. Skills and Competencies:
* Communication Skills: Ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
* Coaching and Mentoring Skills: Experience in guiding and supporting learners, helping them to achieve their full potential.
* Organisational Skills: Ability to manage and coordinate various apprenticeship programs, including tracking progress and meeting deadlines.
* Assessment Skills: Proficiency in assessing learners' performance and providing constructive feedback.
5. IT and Digital Skills:
* Proficiency with E-Learning Tools: Ability to use digital platforms and tools for teaching, assessing, and tracking apprentices’ progress.
* Basic IT Skills: General competence in using standard office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and managing online records.
6. Personal Attributes:
* Patience and Empathy: Understanding of the learning needs of apprentices, particularly those who may require extra support.
* Adaptability: Ability to tailor teaching methods to suit different learning styles and needs.
* Commitment to Continuous Professional Development (CPD): Willingness to update skills and knowledge regularly.
7. Legal and Regulatory Requirements:
* Background Checks: A background check (e.g., DBS in the UK) is required to work with young people or vulnerable adults.
* Health and Safety Knowledge: Understanding of health and safety regulations relevant to the industry and teaching environment.
8. Previous Experience in a Teaching or Training Role:
* Teaching Experience: Prior experience in teaching, training, or mentoring, ideally within an apprenticeship or vocational training context.
