An R&D analytical chemist is urgently required to join an expanding analytical team to work on the development of new and existing products; writing suitable trial proposals, progress reports, and final reports. You will work with the technical manager and a strong analytical team to help in the design and improvement of processes with the writing of suitable documentation to support this function.
Key Responsibilities
1. Contribute to and lead research projects to aid and improve the company's functions.
2. Utilise ICP and other analytical skills (IC, ICP LC, GC-MS) for analysis.
3. Write project COSHH risk assessments and general risk assessments to ensure safe working conditions.
4. Assist the Technical Management Team in process troubleshooting using suitable project work.
5. Support customer activities, including handling complaints and troubleshooting.
6. Support the Laboratory in analysis of samples where required.
7. Investigate, study, and research process raw materials and final products; develop and maintain appropriate documentation.
8. Carry out analytical projects and produce reports to aid analytical, process troubleshooting, and new product introductions.
9. Store and monitor samples appropriately.
10. Perform routine calibration of instruments and equipment, focusing on those related to R&D activities.
11. Conduct detailed analytical projects to better understand process behaviour, including writing trial proposals and progress reports.
12. Calibrate and standardise equipment related to R&D activities.
13. Review and develop new analytical test methods as needed.
14. Assist quality control in the laboratory as required.
15. Ensure safety by understanding product and reagent safety data sheets, protecting yourself, colleagues, and the environment.
16. Train relevant staff on newly developed methods.
Training may be provided to an exceptional graduate with a chemistry degree.
Qualifications And Experience
1. Degree in Chemistry.
2. Preference for A level in Maths and Chemistry.
3. Commercial/Industrial experience preferred.
4. Experience or understanding of inorganic analytical techniques (IC, ICP, GC-MS, XRF) from university projects or experience.
5. Strong analytical chemistry and laboratory techniques.
6. Curiosity and problem-solving skills.
