Our client, a leading organisation in the defence and security sector, is seeking a Senior Procurement Practitioner to join their team on a 12-month contract based at their site in Barrow. This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, requiring 2-3 days in the office each week. The successful candidate will play a critical part in planning, delivering, and monitoring procurement activities within the integrated combat systems domain, ensuring the supply chain operates smoothly, securely, and efficiently. With a focus on quality, cost, and schedule adherence, you will contribute significantly to the delivery of complex defence projects that require high levels of security clearance and technical expertise. Key Responsibilities: Independently undertake transactional procurement activities including raising requests for quotations, negotiating prices and lead times, creating and managing purchase orders, expediting deliveries, and managing payments. Assess and evaluate suppliers through thorough due diligence to ensure they meet business needs and quality standards. Update procurement information systems such as SAP, eDMS, and Teamcenter, ensuring data accuracy in accordance with company policies. Review supplier performance regularly against quality, delivery, and cost metrics, seeking improvements and optimising outcomes. Support major subcontract and transactional process activities, including issuing tenders, managing supplier visits, and supplier relationship management. Record and report on cost savings and cost avoidance to demonstrate procurement effectiveness. Communicate effectively with internal teams and external suppliers to resolve routine issues and escalate high-impact problems when necessary. Job Requirements: Understanding of procurement principles and practices Experience working with procurement systems such as SAP, eDMS, and Teamcenter. Proven negotiation and supplier management skills, with an understanding of commercial contract aspects. Knowledge of in-scope products and services related to integrated combat systems. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks independently. Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with diverse internal and external stakeholders. Understanding of nuclear safety and environmental management considerations relevant to defence projects. Possession of SC security clearance or eligibility to obtain it.
