This post is a full time, fixed term (6 weeks) appointment covering paternity leave at SpR level in Luminal Gastroenterology and General Medicine at the Bristol Royal infirmary.
The successful applicant will join a dynamic gastroenterology team, working clinically to support both inpatient and outpatient work. There will also be the opportunity to work in luminal research via established research links with the University of Bristol.
In addition, the post holder will be part of the general medical on call rota at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, leading the acute medical take and the out of hours medical inpatient team as medical registrar.
Main duties of the job
The Department of Gastroenterology offers exposure to the regional intestinal failure service, experience in working in complex inflammatory bowel disease. The clinical aspect of the post can be tailored to the needs of the post-holder with the aim to provide 2 outpatient clinics per week, seeing both new and follow up patients (inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition and general luminal gastroenterology), supervised by a consultant from the gastrointestinal team. Access to endoscopy training will be available if desired. The remaining clinical time will be spent supporting inpatient work in gastroenterology.
High quality postgraduate education is provided through weekly gastrointestinal departmental meetings, the Division of Medicine Grand Round, multidisciplinary meetings in Nutrition, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Gastrointestinal Radiology. Attendance at Severn General Medicine and Gastroenterology regional training days is encouraged.
Previous endoscopy experience is desirable but not essential.
There may be opportunity to take part in the acute general medical take at the BRI (resident on-call, rota frequency approx.. 1:10).

* Able to assess, initially resuscitate and stabilise acutely sick patients
* Able to lead cardiac arrest team
* Training /experience in Respiratory Failure and management of patients on NIV/CPAP
